What stays on your devices
Food entries, calories, macros, favourites, goals, weight, and water records are stored locally. BiteMe does not send this history to its own servers. Its main database and widget cache are excluded from device backups. Your iPhone may include ordinary app settings in a backup, depending on your settings.
Apple Health
Health integration has separate controls for calories, water, and weight. BiteMe can write all three to Apple Health. It can also read the water and weight records you allow so they stay in sync; BiteMe does not read your calorie history. Health data is never used for advertising. You can change access at any time in the Health app or Settings.
Widgets and Apple Watch
Widgets keep a small local copy of the information they display. iOS can hide those details while your device is locked. The Apple Watch app also keeps a local copy so it can work away from your iPhone. Changes pass between your paired devices through Apple's system connection rather than BiteMe servers.
Camera, photos, and barcode scanning
Camera access is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or photograph a meal. Meal photos are analysed on your iPhone and are not uploaded by BiteMe.
For an online barcode lookup, BiteMe sends the product code to Open Food Facts. That service also receives standard network information such as your IP address. BiteMe uses the result only to suggest a product and nutrition values. Manual logging remains available, and any barcode match you choose to save stays on your iPhone.
Reminders, Siri, and search
Meal reminders are scheduled on your device. Siri and Shortcuts receive the information needed to run the action you request. System Search & Suggestions is a separate, optional setting that can make logged foods and suggested actions available to Apple's on-device search. It is off by default.
Deleting your data
You can delete entries and favourites individually, or use Reset App in Settings to remove BiteMe's local data. You can also remove data written by BiteMe from the Health app. Turning Health sync off or uninstalling BiteMe leaves existing Health records in place.
